Many notable names are dipping their toes into crypto. Apple executive Tim Cook said Tuesday in an interview with DealBook that he owns crypto, has been interested in it for “a while” and that it’s “reasonable to own it as part of a diversified portfolio.” (He added, however, that he wasn’t giving investment advice and Apple itself didn’t plan on incorporating crypto into the company’s operations.)
And he’s just the latest in string of celebrities and affluent entrepreneurs who are filling up their virtual wallets with bitcoin, ether, dogecoin, and other types of crypto. Here are the kinds of crypto celebrities have in their wallets:
Elon Musk: Bitcoin, dogecoin, ether
Though Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk tweets about Shiba Inu, the billionaire investor said recently he owns “none” in response to a Twitter query. Instead, Musk revealed he invested in bitcoin, dogecoin and ether. He’s called crypto “the future currency of the earth,” but at the same times has urged his 60 million followers on Twitter to use caution. “Cryptocurrency is promising, but please invest with caution,” he wrote. Earlier this year, Tesla bought $1.5 billion in Bitcoin.
Jack Dorsey: Bitcoin
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey started endorsing Bitcoin in 2017 and continues to be a bullish investor. He revealed in 2019 he spends thousands of dollars to buy bitcoin weekly. Dorsey’s company Square bought $170 million worth of bitcoin earlier this year.
Reese Witherspoon: Ether
The “The Morning Show” actress, who recently sold her media company Hello Sunshine for $900 million, the Wall Street Journal reported, became a first-time Ethereum investor, she tweeted in September. “Just bought my first ETH. Let’s do this! #CryptoTwitter,” she tweeted out to her more than 2 million followers.
Suze Orman: Bitcoin
Personal finance expert Suze Orman told listeners on her “Women & Money (And Everyone Smart Enough To Listen)” podcast to invest in cryptocurrency only if they can afford to lose. She’s endorsed tokens like bitcoin and Ethereum, and she told Time’s NextAdvisor this summer that she personally had $5,000 in Bitcoin.
Mark Cuban: Bitcoin and dogecoin
“Shark Tank” co-host and investor Mark Cuban, in August, said he owned $500 worth of dogecoin and that his investment increased to $1,500 as of October, he told FOX Business. Cuban also owns bitcoin and other altcoins like ether, according to CNBC.
Paris Hilton: Bitcoin and ether
The singer, actress and businesswoman invested in bitcoin and ether in 2016, when the token was valued at under $1,000 and Ethereum was less than $10, she told Coindesk. More recently, Hilton auctioned off a digital painting of her cat for 40 ETH (worth nearly $17,000) on the auction platform Cryptograph last August.
