Syed Saddiq, Member of Parliament for Muar, has collaborated with the charity NFT4HOPE to launch an NFT collection featuring his face. With this collection, the organization aims to raise funds for the nation’s flood victims.
A total of four NFTs can be viewed on the NFT4HOPE site, and they have been labeled “Super Rare” or “Ultra Rare”. Titled “Metamorphosis”, the “Ultra Rare” copy is a hybrid of digital and physical artwork by contemporary artist, Jaee Tee.
Inspired by Syed Saddiq’s career transition, Tee digitized an oil painting he had created and integrated it with digital effects to create a unique-looking work in video form.
According to Tee, the splashes of yellow, red, blue and white that were used “invoke great importance as they derive from the Glorious trailWith this NFT design, Tee hopes to inspire and bring hope to those who want to create a brighter future for Malaysia.
While Syed Saddiq’s NFT Collection was announced, it is not yet available for purchase. There are also no indications of how much each NFT would cost. Aside from Syed Saddiq, former Sabah Chief Minister Shafie Apdal will also launch his own NFT4HOPE collection, alongside TV host Deborah Henry.
There is currently no information on when these NFTs would be released. A + M has contacted NFT4HOPE for additional information.
Last December, floods affected people in areas like Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Perak, which have since continued into the new year. According to CNN on January 3, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan and Sabah were still affected by the floods.
This is not the first time that a Malaysian figure has launched their own NFT. In November last year, Malaysian singer-songwriter Namewee, who caused controversy with his song, Fragile (Crystal Heart) he also created his own NFTs.
According to the artist in his YouTube video titled “Using NFTs to Fight the World”, the idea of opening an NFT account was to “counter the middle men” and secure ownership of items such as art.
Similarly, Malaysian artist Red Hong Yi added five new exclusive artworks to her NFT Memebank Banknotes series that same month.
Inspired by world currencies and contemporary meme culture in the digital world, the Yi Banknotes series is a parody of the latest redesigned dollar bills covering the Malaysian ringgit, Singapore dollar, Chinese yuan, Japanese yen , the US dollar and the British pound.
