Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali on Wednesday said three license applications from cryptocurrency exchange offices were being processed and that four digital token issuers had submitted paid license applications.
“I expect that we will issue the first licenses in the next few weeks – that is very important for us,” Mali said in the Serbian parliament, responding to questions from MPs.
He said Serbia had been one of the first countries to regulate this field by law and added that, slowly but surely, the cryptocurrency and digital token market was developing, too.
He also said intensive work was underway on a strategy aimed at growth and development of the Belgrade Stock Exchange.
“I believe the Belgrade Stock Exchange is the right instrument to support the development of our financial market and, at this point, we are working on developing a digital token trading platform that will be implemented as early as next year,” Mali said.
